In the first nine months of the year, over 1.900 doctors have left the country in order to work in state of the art hospitals in Western Europe. The fact that doctors continue to leave Romania is a negative phenomenon because some medical fields remain uncovered.
“In the first nine months of 201, 1.900 doctors have left Romania. The French representative of the Order of Physicians stated at a meeting in Iasi, Romania, that at the moment over 2.000 Romanian doctors are members of the organization. At the same time, over 6.000 Romanian doctors, work in Franceâ€, said Vasile Astarastoae, the president of the “Colegiul Medicilor†from Romania, at the CMR gathering.
Astarastoae mentioned that the medical exodus caused the fact that in Romania, for 1000 people there are 1.9 doctors, 2.2 if we add the dentists, when the European average is 3.7 for 1000 people.
“Sadly the health system is chronically sub-financed, it is inconsistent and unequal. Romania still assigns the smallest amount of the GDP for health-care, under 3%, when the European average is 5-6%â€,added the president of the “Colegiul Medicilorâ€.
According to the president, in Romania, the authorities claim that they grew the consumption of medicines 6 times, although the statistics show that Romania is on the last position in the EU(7-10 times lower than in the rest of the EU), having at the same time the highest rate of diseases.
“In this context, the salary for the medical personnel is among the smallest in Europe, being smaller that the salary of a secretary. In addition, after entering the European Union, the doctors got one single recommendation: “Leave the country!â€â€, added Astarastoae.
The Minister of Health, Ritli Ladislau, stated at the CMR gathering that: “the fact that the doctors are leaving, is a real problem, a phenomenon that should cause concern, and that solutions have to be found.â€
