We decided to publish this article regarding the medical migration trend in Romania, so that we can come to a mutual agreement about why medical specialists choose to leave their country in order to practice medicine abroad.
Before giving our own insights we present to you this article from the Adevarul newspaper:
“Since 2007, over 10.000 doctors have left the country in order to work abroad. During this time period about 7000 people graduated medical universities,†said Vasile Astarastoae, the president of the Romanian College of Physicians.
President of the College of Physicians of Romania said at a special seminar organized by Ziarul Financial, that Romania currently has a total of 56.000 doctors, of which 13.000 are residents, 2000 are retired doctors that are still in the CMR records and doctors with full license to practice.
He stated that the reduction of the number of doctors has mainly two causes: the blocking of vacant positions and the migration of the healthcare specialists.
“The number of doctors fell because medical positions in Romania are blocked, and doctors seek better positions abroad. The State is obliged to protect the health and also to fulfill social responsibility,” said Professor Vasile Astarastoae the conference “The patients need a healthcare system reform?
